Out From Boneville
They first attempt to eat Fone Bone in his sleep in Deren Gard, but the reawakened Great Red Dragon scares them off. They catch sight of him a second time and capture him but he escapes when they get into an argument over quiche. Fone Bone runs into them again in the winter when they capture the possum kids and they chase him through the valley, but the Great Red Dragon scares them off once again. They are later called to an audience with the Hooded One where they tell him of Fone Bone's whereabouts.
The Great Cow RaceThey find Fone Bone while he is writing poetry for Thorn and chase him through the woods. Their chase eventually causes them to run right into the cow race. After the chaos is over, they decide to hide from Kingdok to avoid getting in trouble. They do not get off to a good start, as when quiche is mentioned, the rat creature gets a nest full of eggs on his head.
Eyes of the Storm
Kingdok finds them, but rewards them for disrupting the cow race instead of punishing them, due to his dislike of the Valley People. He gives them pre-skinned rabbits, and they faint in relief.
They attack Thorn, Gran'ma Ben, and Fone Bone in the woods. Gran'ma fights them and finds out from them that the Rat Creatures have evacuated the valley. They witness Kingdok getting his arm cut off and manage to save him by stopping the bleeding. They then decide to run away and hide forever to avoid punishment.
Rock Jaw: Master of the Eastern Border
They attack Fone Bone and Smiley on their way to return Bartleby to his people. After Fone Bone temporarily knocks them out by reading them Moby Dick, they chase the Bones up a cliff but Smiley fends them off by throwing rocks. The possum kids later trick them into exposing themselves to Roque Ja. They encounter and join the Bones and their animal companions later on, but are attacked by a vision of Kingdok. They manage to escape from him and have to work together with the Bones to get off the mountain safely. When Rock Jaw captures them and brings them to Kingdok, the two Rat Creatures betray them and prevent Fone Bone and Smiley from escaping. In doing so they are attacked by the Bones' animal friends and are accepted back by the Rat Creatures.
Crown of Horns
The two Rat Creatures are not seen again until the siege of Atheia. They break through the city's defenses but are captured by Smiley Bone and the Veni-Yan warriors. Smiley attempted to use them for psychological warfare, but this plan was never carried out as he needed to help Gran'ma Ben, leaving the quiche right out of the starving Rat Creatures' reach. The two Rat Creatures were later released and they went back to living in the wild. On the Winter Solstice, Fone Bone went out into the woods with a large platter and found them. He gave them the platter, which contained piping hot quiche as a gift to them. The two Rat Creatures decided not to question his actions and eat their quiche.
Quest for the Spark
In quest of the Spark they join Tom's "Motely crew" which really upsets Roderick. They help first when they steal a dead squirrel, who they name Fredrick, from Agak which contains a piece of the spark.
